This is my third assignment for CGMA's Creating Stylized Game Assets taught by Ashleigh Warner. For this sci-fi prop, I decided go with a claw machine! My ideas changed drastically within the course of the first week, morphing from wanting to do a neon, cyberpunk-inspired futuristic claw machine, to one that might be seen in, or built by a Gnome from Mechagon.
I was really inspired by concept art of robots and machines with legs, so my initial sketches started out with the machine having legs, and therefore being portable. I imagined the Gnome who created it, wanted this machine to be suited for the heights of different races, raising and lowering to accommodate various sizes. She brings the claw machine all around Azeroth, offering up a chance to win a custom-made Corgi plush, made by her little sister who doesn't have a corgi of her own yet, but tries her best to provide them to the world.
In the end, this claw machine is not as portable as I had envisioned originally, but one may be able to find it in a tiny corner of Mechagon, still offering up a chance for corgis in exchange for a few coins.
Lastly, of course I had to make the stuffed animals into corgis, inspired by my own boy, Waffles.
The blockout model and concepts were done in week 3, and the prop was textured and finalized in week 4.
Modeled in Maya, textured in 3DCoat and Photoshop, rendered with Sketchfab.
